RESIST Media Session IV
Tuesday, 3 June
10:00 – 11:30
Online via Zoom
The unmistakable signs of human-induced climate change reached new heights in 2024—likely the first calendar year to exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average, according to the State of the Global Climate 2024 Report. This is more than a headline: it signals a cascade of consequences, including accelerated sea level rise, worsening coastal erosion, shrinking Arctic and Antarctic ice, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events—causing economic and social losses on an almost daily basis.
In the face of these growing threats, 12 regions across Europe are working together through the RESIST project to turn knowledge into action. This media briefing will highlight how these climate-vulnerable areas—from Southwest Finland to Extremadura—are co-developing and sharing practical solutions to strengthen local resilience.
Journalists will hear directly from regional representatives showcasing real-world case studies, including:
- Tools to help policymakers assess the costs and benefits of nature-based solutions
- Early warning systems to enhance community preparedness
- Wildfire risk strategies that support both safety and rural livelihoods
- Flood protection measures tailored to local contexts
But these are just a few of the many strategies underway. RESIST is not about one-size-fits-all solutions—it’s about collaboration. Regions are pooling experiences, adapting ideas, and building a growing network of mutual learning and innovation.
This media briefing goes beyond the headlines, offering insight into practical tools, local successes, and the power of interregional exchange. A live Q&A session with project leaders and regional experts will follow.
RESIST is part of the EU Mission on Climate Adaptation, supporting long-term resilience through cross-border cooperation and locally driven action. Because effective adaptation requires all of us—governments, businesses, communities, and the media.
