Our mission
RESIST is a five-year EU-funded project that has emerged from the need to make regions more resilient to climate change. The effects of environmental changes are a reality affecting our societies in many ways. We need to adapt to the current and predicted effects of climate change by taking action.
RESIST is a five-year EU-funded project that has emerged from the need to make regions more resilient to climate change. The effects of environmental changes are a reality affecting our societies in many ways. We need to adapt to the current and predicted effects of climate change by taking action.
The project will adopt a new practical framework in which climate adaptation pathways will be tested in four leading regions of the European Union (EU): Southwest Finland, Central Denmark, Catalonia and Central Portugal. Know-how and adaptation pathways tested in the leading regions will be transferred to eight twinned regions through mutual-learning activities and immersive digital twins.

RESIST is part of a wider strategy at European level: the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change. The mission focuses on supporting at least 150 European regions, cities and local authorities by 2030 in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change. RESIST will engage so far twelve European regions with different socioeconomic profiles that will test adaptation solutions to five key climate challenges: floods, droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, and soil erosion.
European regions and cities have different climate vulnerabilities and levels of preparedness. RESIST acknowledges this and is built on the real challenges and needs of twelve climate-vulnerable regions in Europe. The project follows the quintuple helix model, which involves civil society organisations (CSOs), private sector, policy makers and the scientific community through a cross-sectoral and bottom-up approach.

Key players from these stakeholder groups will work collaboratively in an environmentally sensitive way. The project will strengthen resilience, accelerate the transformation and increase the adaptive capacity of climate-vulnerable regions, contributing to the development of new regional measures, policy instruments and social and technological solutions.
RESIST will also promote the further transfer of know-how and of innovative resilient solutions for water, air and land climate change (CC) issues, incorporating also market-oriented approach for their wider and sustainable exploitation. The projects aims to reduce the time-to-market and risk for at least 100 new climate change adaptation solutions from providers across Europe, offering coaching, business support and potential regional markets to scale-up their solutions.
