The Resist Project was presented at the Workshop “Shaping Future Fire-Resilient Landscapes and Communities in Portugal”, as part of the program of the International Conference on Major Issues in the European Area, which took place in Porto, Portugal, on 23 May 2024.
Given the importance of RESIST in the search for innovative solutions to adapt to climate change, the work being carried out by CoLAB ForestWISE in support of CIM Região de Coimbra was presented. The work has focused on implementing participatory practices with forest owners, with the aim of involving them in decision-making processes in the application of public policies defined in the context of increasing the resilience of territories to rural fires.
These policies aim to transform the landscape more resilient to rural fires through a stakeholder engagement process that promotes multifunctional land use, foster active forest management, generates awareness on self-protection against risks (e.g. wildfires) and adopts good agroforestry practices and reinforce biomass circularity.
