First field visit takes place in Central Portugal

RESIST Project partners CIM Região de Coimbra, CoLAB ForestWISE, and municipal representatives took part in the first field activity of the project! Guided visits were held in the beautiful Integrated Area of Landscape Management in São Miguel, Vila Nova de Poiares, and the charming village of Vale Maceira, Góis, in Central Portugal. The visit aimed to assess project areas and engage with landowners as part of the mission to promote landscape change, valorise forest waste, and enhance fire resilience in rural areas.

A Devastating Fire in Extremadura

A devastating fire erupted on 18 May in Pinofranqueado, in the county of Las Hurdes in Extremadura, Spain. The fire engulfed as much as 10,863 hectares of land, including precious forests and plantations. Around 7% of the burnt area was within the scope of RESIST Project activities. This alarming incident underscores the urgency of implementing sustainable practices in forest, agricultural, and livestock management to help prevent future disasters. The RESIST Project aims to address these challenges and promote responsible stewardship of our natural resources.

RESIST at the Mission Adaptation to Climate Change Forum

The second annual forum of the Mission Adaptation to Climate Change took place in Blekinge, Sweden on 13 June 2023, with the participation of RESIST Project representatives. The forum served as a platform for connecting with stakeholders dedicated to supporting European regions, cities, and local authorities in building resilience to climate change impacts. RESIST Project representatives Anna Bonven, Thomas Bjørnsten, Erika Augustinsson, Johan Nilsson, Marco Bertoni, Andreas Larsson, Katariina Yli-Heikkilä and Minna Kivimäki were at the event.

Meet the RESIST Community: SINTEF

SINTEF leads the RESIST Project in partnership with INOVA+ to build climate change resilience in the 12 European regions. Using digital modelling, researchers will visualise the impacts of rising sea levels, enabling governing authorities to make informed decisions. SINTEF offers services and expertise in various fields, including renewable energy, ocean space, materials, and much more!

On the Horizon

RESIST Project partners are meeting in Turku, Finland, on 28-29 June 2023 for the second consortium meeting of the project. Partners from across Europe will meet to recap the work done during the first six months of the project and plan the second semester of 2023. The REVOLVE Communication team will be shooting a promotional video showcasing the region and the RESIST Project.

EURESFO2023 is taking place on 18-20 October 2023 in the beautiful town of Cascais, Portugal. The forum is an exchange platform for city representatives and experts to discuss strategies, initiatives and actions for adapting to climate change, managing disasters and building urban resilience.
