Chapter 3: Community Gardening

Building Climate Resilience | A Gardening Community in Turku | RESIST

Tuula Hannula manages a vegetable plot that is rented out by the city of Turku. She has been noticing hotter summers with less rainfall as well as the appearance of new animals, like certain types of butterflies, that she had never seen before in the area. Sometimes they are able to grow tomatoes out in the open field, something she said would have been unimaginable in her childhood.

Another issue that affects this area of vegetable allotments is stormwater drainage issues, something the RESIST Project aims to tackle with nature-based solutions.

In this third video from RESIST’s Building Climate Resilience series from Southwest Finland, we explore how the changing climate is affecting the transitional rural-urban areas of the city of Turku.
